NERA 2026 - Courage and Agency in Education for the Present 

A NERA proposal for presentation must be written (and held) in English. The proposal needs to be connected to one of the NERA networks.

The abstract should be 300-500 words including references and should include the following:

  1. Research topic/aim
  2. Theoretical framework
  3. Methodology/research design
  4. Expected results/findings
  5. Relevance to Nordic educational research 

The presentation types are paper, poster, symposium, roundtable discussion and workshop. 

Due to the number of participants and the schedule, it is only possible to present one paper or a poster as the first presenter.

You can participate as a co-author in multiple papers or posters, but it cannot be guaranteed that there is no overlap of the presenting program. In addition to presenting a paper or poster, it is possible to be a presenter in a symposium, a roundtable discussion or workshop.

The schedule will be set by the organising committee in collaboration with the network conveners. It will not be possible to consider requests for a specific presentation time or day. 

Please note that you must be a member of NFPF/NERA for the year 2025 to be able to register for the conference, and you can register your membership through NERA at the NFPF/NERA website. Registration is not needed in the abstract submission stage. 

Presentation types 

  • Paper sessions consist of a presentation and a discussion of papers about ongoing or completed research projects. The time frame for each paper presentation is 25 minutes including the presentation (max. 20 mins) and discussion (approx. 5 mins). In each parallel session, a maximum of four papers will be presented. Abstract proposals for paper presentations should be 300-500 words.


  • Poster sessions offer an opportunity to present a project visually, on a poster. Poster presenters should expect to meet participants during the poster session – in order to maximize interaction between participants and presenters. The abstract proposal (300-500 words) must describe the focus of the poster.

    Posters should be A0 size, portrait layout (84.1 cm wide × 118.9 cm high). The poster presenter is responsible for bringing their own poster to the conference.

  • An organised symposium session builds on a theme and is proposed and planned by a symposium organiser. The papers focus on a common theme. A symposium has a chair (often the organiser) and one or more discussant(s), who have read the papers in advance. The symposium organiser will decide how the symposium is to be organised and the time allotment for each presentation. The total time of a symposium is 2 hours. It is recommended that at least two different countries/national perspectives are represented in the symposium. The organiser of the symposium is responsible for submitting the symposium proposal including the following elements: 
     
    1. The title of the symposium 
    2. The chair and discussant(s) of the symposium
    3. An abstract describing the entire symposium (300-500 words) 

    After submitting the symposium proposal via Oxford Abstract the symposium organiser can invite the symposium contributors (max. 4) to submit their abstracts (300-500 words) to the symposium via link. 

  • A roundtable discussion is a forum for presenting and discussing developmental work, research plans, research in progress, practitioner experiences, educational improvement initiatives, issues in institutional effectiveness and improvement. A roundtable sessions is for 1 hour.
     
    The organiser of the roundtable discussion should submit a roundtable proposal including the following elements: 

    1. The title of the roundtable discussion 
    2. The chair of the roundtable discussion
    3. An abstract describing the entire roundtable (300-500 words). The abstract proposal must describe the focus and purpose of the session and ways in which participants will be engaged.

    After submitting the roundtable discussion proposal via Oxford Abstract the roundtable organiser can invite the contributors to submit their abstracts (300-500 words) to the roundtable session via link. 

  • Workshops are intended to be interactive and collaborative sessions that aim to provide participants with hands-on learning experiences, practical skills, and in-depth discussions on a specific topic/theme presented by researchers, practitioners, or policymakers. A workshop session is for 1 hour.

    The organiser of the workshop should submit a workshop proposal including the following elements: 

    1. The title of the workshop
    2. The chair of the workshop
    3. An abstract describing the workshop (300-500 words). The workshop proposal should include the purpose and the rationale of the session, a description of the presentation and a statement regarding audience involvement. 

    After submitting the workshop proposal via Oxford Abstract the organiser can invite the contributors to submit their abstracts (300-500 words) to the workshop via link. These are not necessary on a workshop.
